 MATHThese are the addition and subtraction facts to master this year. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We are using enVision Math. This program was written specifically to address the Common Core Standards, which New Jersey has adopted in 2010. First Grade Focus: * Developing understanding of addition, subtraction, and strategies for addition and subtraction within 20. Includes fluency with addition and subtraction facts to 10. * Developing understanding of whole number relationships and place value, including grouping in tens and ones. * Developing understanding of linear measurement (includes telling time to hour and half hour). *Geometric shapes (includes fractions). Please discuss the daily lesson pages we do in class. Additional homework is for reinforcement and practice. First graders will need your help reading story problems and directions. Thanks! November - June: First graders are learning a variety of strategies and tools to solve addition and subtraction problems: counting on and back, doubles and near doubles, making a ten, using counters, number lines, and drawing pictures. However, it is important to memorize basic facts at this time as well. Your help also is needed with this.
