  • Student Accolades!

Posted by Dr. Raymond J. Boccuti at 4/24/2017

I hope everyone enjoyed Spring Break and I am proud to report the following student accolades that I received during the break:

Received from Achieve 3000’s founder and CEO:  “I’m writing to personally congratulate you on your students’ amazing accomplishments! I like keeping up to date with valued partners like you, and wanted to share some of the latest data highlights. By the end of March, your students’ Lexile reading levels had increased by 132L - 4.3x times the expected growth of 30L! These gains are a result of your leadership and your students’ hard work, with 97% of your students using Achieve3000 after school, on their own time. Additionally, H W Mountz Elementary School in your district won our recent Read2Succeed Contest. Congratulations!”

Received from National Junior Honor Society:  “Congratulations!  It is a pleasure to inform you that one of your nominees, Kelly Degnan, has been selected as a recipient of the 2017 National Junior Honor Society Outstanding Achievement Award!  Recipients will receive a $500 award, which will be placed in a college savings account, to be managed by Oppenheimerfunds (OFI Private Investments) as part of the New Mexico Education Trust Board's 529 college savings plan - The Education Plan.”

This week at Mountz:  On Monday, PARCC make-ups for grades 3-8, Board of Education meeting in the library at 6:30 PM.  On Tuesday, PARCC make-ups for grades 3-8, Softball home vs. Avon at 3:45 PM.  On Wednesday, PARCC make-ups for grades 3-8.  On Thursday, Baseball home vs. Avon at 3:45 PM, Art Show at 6:00 PM.  On Saturday, Student Council Carnival from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

  • PARCC Assessment Reminders!

Posted by Dr. Raymond J. Boccuti at 4/2/2017

As you have been notified through a letter from Mrs. Walsifer and teacher e-Blast updates, tomorrow, Monday, April 3, is the start of our annual administration of the PARCC assessment.  As this is a state mandated assessment, I am requesting you take a few minutes today or this evening to review with your child the importance of this assessment with the following information.

First, PARCC is an assessment of individual student learning and understanding.  Therefore, we carefully review and utilize the data to help us address the educational needs of our individual students.  Second, PARCC is an assessment of grade level student performance.  Therefore, we carefully review and utilize the data to help us ensure our students are exceeding standards.  Finally, PARCC is an assessment of curriculum alignment with the standards.  Therefore, we carefully review and utilize the data to help us continually update our curricula so our students continually receive the highest quality of instruction and content.

As clear evidence that we are on the right track, and as I previously reported, we are very proud to be one of the 25 school districts in the state tied for top performance in PARCC.  This accolade was proudly accepted in recognition of our commitment to continually improve teaching, learning, and student achievement.

Please join me in sharing this information with your child with strong encouragement for your child to do his/her very best in every minute and every day of the assessment.  Please also make sure your child comes to school with a good night's rest and has eaten a good breakfast so he/she will be best prepared to do his/her best.

Thank you for your assistance on this very important endeavor for your child and our school district.

  • Virtual Learning Lab Launched!

Posted by Dr. Raymond J. Boccuti at 2/5/2017

Please permit me to start by repeating some important “thank you” recognitions.  First, I extend my genuine appreciation to our Board of Education, SLED, and the PTA for their respective financial contributions to purchase our new virtual learning lab and additional technology supports.  I also appreciate three of our outstanding teachers, Mr. DeStefano, Mrs. Krebs, and Mrs. Pearce who are diligently working to integrate this amazing technology tool into our curricula and into the hands of our students and staff.

After some initial integrations, we were excited for our students to take their first two virtual field trips this week.  Our students observed a spinal surgical procedure and were able to interactively discuss the surgery with the surgical team and other students who attended.  We also had students visit the facilities of this weekend’s Super Bowl.
