September 25
** Remember: Picture Day is September 29!
The children are working hard and have become acclimated to their new classroom and first grade routines. We had our first spelling test today with great success!
Our Reading and Writing Workshops are being "launched". We'll be learning workshop procedures, how to select books for independent reading, building good reading habits, and using writing folders.
Science - we are starting our first unit. Over the next several weeks, we'll be learning about weather conditions, water sources and uses, seasons, and the night sky. To start off, we'll make our observations using the senses.
Math - we are learning about adding and subtracting 1-10.
September 14
We are off to a great start! Back-to-School Night for parents and teachers will be on Wednesday, September 23.
Back-to-School September 2009
Welcome new first graders! We will have a wonderful year learning together! I"ll send home a letter in August about the first day of school.
Supply list: I have homework folders and reading/writing folders for everyone. The school provides pencils, erasers, crayons, glue sticks, paper, markers and scissors. Please don't bring more from home.
You will need a backpack:
It should be large enough to fit a folder with room to spare. Please don't get the kind with wheels. They take up a lot of room in our closet and do not work well in a line of children. We rarely bring home more than one hard cover book so the backpacks are not heavy. Please have your name on the pack.
That's all you need! See you soon!
